Drummer Boy PFF #16
Marie is going with a Christmas theme this week, so I'm throwing this one in. I have another saved up for Christmas, but I finished this as a subscription issue a year ago and thought that I'd get everyone into the spirit by drumming up one from Christmas Past.
I'm busy working on Christmas gifts. Unfortunately, I simply can't post any images or I'd be spoiling the surprise of it all for the recipients!
I thought I might add a little to what I already said about this image after seeing the first couple of comments: I did this one especially for my younger brother Dan. He was (and still is) a drummer. He and his wife collect Drummer Boys. When the USPS announced what the subject was going to be for the Contemporary Christmas issue, I simply couldn't pass up doing this issue.

Oh, how wonderful! I love the colors of this postcard!
ReplyDeleteMarie must have put my art blog in by mistake. I couldn't get Mr. McLinky to work for me this morning! You can find my entry for PFF at www.thebestheartsarecruncy.blogspot.com.
I enjoy your blog very much--knowing what an incredible artist you are--I am so very honored that you would say such kind things about my drawing.
My son John is taking drum lessons and my son Noah is learning the trumpet. Santa...PLEASE bring me earplugs for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHe looks like a nutcracking drummer boy.
ReplyDeleteHe looks very energic, he could play it all day without battery I think.
ReplyDeleteI got one cute toy card similar to this, let me dig it out.

All Little Things I Like
I remember the stamps! Love the nutcracker drummer boy. Well done (as usual). I bet your brother loved it.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. My son has a large collection of Christmas drums, military drummer boys, etc. which I built up for him over the years. And I love going to Montreal's Grands Ballets version of the Nutracker.
ReplyDeleteThanks for triggering these memories!

He is wonderful. Maybe you can show us your Christmas gifts...after Christmas.
ReplyDeleteNo drums or bugles for my children!
ReplyDeleteThat is very nice. I don't collect stamps or envelopes, but I do like postcards and maximum cards with images of Christmas stamps.
ReplyDeleteYour postcard is perfect...a little whimsy for a whimsical time of the year. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun card... I love NUTCRACKERS!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love surprises!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great Christmas card!
ReplyDeleteTwo of my granddaughters are spending the night this weekend. I have wooden Nutcrackers for them to paint. They will love it. They are going to see the Nutcracker ballet with my parents the night before.
Nice image. Reminds me of the brightly painted wooden soldier holiday statues that once decorated North Shore Shopping Center in Peabody Mass. I remember them as being 20 feet tall but everything seems bigger when you are a kid!
ReplyDeleteWe have a nutcracker and I think it is like this one. My wife, Patty, doesn't remember for sure.
ReplyDeleteYou really did a neat job on this one. I wish I could get myself interested in art again and do some things like I used to. I just stumbled on the piece of cardboard I had cut out to slip in envelopes so I could work on the face of them without the cutmarks showing up. Or the fold marks.

Lovely nutcrackers. My son and I perform in a local Nutcracker performance this weekend. Last year he was the Nutcracker. This year he's the Mouse King. I just have a small part as an adult party goer.
ReplyDeleteSo Nutcrackers are dear to our hearts too, if for different reasons.
Gorgeous card! :) I have two little drummer boys (with a full drum set to share). The only time I want earplugs is when they are playing the cymbals!! :D
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful card - am i right in thinking the stamps are on the same side as the image? that also happens often in italy with special commemorative issues! happy PFF!
ReplyDeleteI'm being dragged into the Christmas spirit kicking and screaming this year, so your lovely postcard helps smooth the way. Happy PFF!
ReplyDeleteMy son just loves the drummer boy/nutcrackers. He has quite a collection. I'm sure you brother loved your lovely tribute.
ReplyDeleteWell, you've seen my drummer boy -:) And your little brother does indeed have an enviable collection of nutcrackers. I think even he has lost count! Thanks for drumming up a bit of Christmas anticipation for us today!
ReplyDeleteCome, oh Mailman, come, pa-rum pa-pum pum.
ReplyDeleteBring me a gift from him, pa-rum pa-pum pum.
I am so lucky to be o-on his list,
He is the one to be a-hugged and a-kissed,
Primo Ar-tist,
Needs no assist;
Come, oh Mailman, come, pa-rum pa-pum pum.
Please, do come.
its nice when one can connect art to family and friends
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! And what a great gift!
ReplyDeleteVery nice.
ReplyDeleteGreat drumming Nutcracker! He looks quite festive.
ReplyDeleteYou asked about cats and no, I don't sketch them as I don't have one. I'm sure I would if we had a cat though :-)
