Drummer Boy PFF #16

Marie is going with a Christmas theme this week, so I'm throwing this one in. I have another saved up for Christmas, but I finished this as a subscription issue a year ago and thought that I'd get everyone into the spirit by drumming up one from Christmas Past.

I'm busy working on Christmas gifts. Unfortunately, I simply can't post any images or I'd be spoiling the surprise of it all for the recipients!

I thought I might add a little to what I already said about this image after seeing the first couple of comments: I did this one especially for my younger brother Dan. He was (and still is) a drummer. He and his wife collect Drummer Boys. When the USPS announced what the subject was going to be for the Contemporary Christmas issue, I simply couldn't pass up doing this issue.

  1. Oh, how wonderful! I love the colors of this postcard!

Marie must have put my art blog in by mistake. I couldn't get Mr. McLinky to work for me this morning! You can find my entry for PFF at www.thebestheartsarecruncy.blogspot.com.

I enjoy your blog very much--knowing what an incredible artist you are--I am so very honored that you would say such kind things about my drawing.

  4. He looks very energic, he could play it all day without battery I think.

I got one cute toy card similar to this, let me dig it out.

  6. Gorgeous. My son has a large collection of Christmas drums, military drummer boys, etc. which I built up for him over the years. And I love going to Montreal's Grands Ballets version of the Nutracker.
    Thanks for triggering these memories!

  9. That is very nice. I don't collect stamps or envelopes, but I do like postcards and maximum cards with images of Christmas stamps.

  12. What a great Christmas card!

Two of my granddaughters are spending the night this weekend. I have wooden Nutcrackers for them to paint. They will love it. They are going to see the Nutcracker ballet with my parents the night before.

  13. Nice image. Reminds me of the brightly painted wooden soldier holiday statues that once decorated North Shore Shopping Center in Peabody Mass. I remember them as being 20 feet tall but everything seems bigger when you are a kid!

  14. We have a nutcracker and I think it is like this one. My wife, Patty, doesn't remember for sure.

You really did a neat job on this one. I wish I could get myself interested in art again and do some things like I used to. I just stumbled on the piece of cardboard I had cut out to slip in envelopes so I could work on the face of them without the cutmarks showing up. Or the fold marks.

  15. Lovely nutcrackers. My son and I perform in a local Nutcracker performance this weekend. Last year he was the Nutcracker. This year he's the Mouse King. I just have a small part as an adult party goer.
So Nutcrackers are dear to our hearts too, if for different reasons.

  16. Gorgeous card! :) I have two little drummer boys (with a full drum set to share). The only time I want earplugs is when they are playing the cymbals!! :D

  24. Great drumming Nutcracker! He looks quite festive.

You asked about cats and no, I don't sketch them as I don't have one. I'm sure I would if we had a cat though :-)
