PFF #6 - The Boys of Summer

I know, I know, boys and girls... Marie has invited us to play ball! - WELL!!! Not really. She thinks we're ready to go back to school! I know I'm not and I certainly want to make sure that everybody gets a chance to bat here. I did this one in 1994, and as far as I can determine, this is one that Rockwell did in black and white only. I added the color, respectfully.

BATTERRRR UP!!!!!

  1. I like this one. Normal Rockwell was a friend of mine, believe it or not. He and I corresponded for a number of years. I was illustrating for magazines then and he would help me out and answer some of my questions. A long time ago.

  5. You realize, of course, that you could start reproducing this postage-stamp-size in the corners of envelopes, and start getting your free franking again!

  6. Ahh, the fun of those carefree school days. Thank god we aren't going back there again. I love being old enough to terrorise people and get away with it now, LOL! Love those kids on the paper though working out the batter.

  7. Norman captured the spirit of baseball and the boys of summer here, didn't he? Your colors are a wonderful addition!

  9. For a minute there I thought I was looking at a postcard of cricket- but no! The second glance told me how wrong I was. :)

  10. I love how long and lanky some are and the others haven't gotten that spurt yet. It says so much.

  11. Norman Rockwell has always been an inspiration to me as an artist. Someday, when I actually take some art classes, maybe I'll be a fraction of the artist he was.

  14. I love how you match the art to the stamp. Norman Rockwell's art is so interesting to look at. His work had so much psychology and nostalgia built into it. It's hard not to love.

  15. Now I'm craving peanuts and cracker jacks:) What a gorgeous job you did tinting this piece. I'm always flabbergasted by your talent!

I've been away because I was stuck in the hospital...and then I had a pretty stressful move to Germany. Everything is coming up roses now though:)
